President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has instructed the relevant parties to hold the Provincial Council elections expeditiously.
The President has instructed that steps be taken to expedite the holding of the Provincial Council Elections Bill or to remove any confusion that may arise.
The Presidential Media Unit announced that they had defeated the bill introduced by the previous government including the division system, delimitation, 50 and 50 women composition and the Provincial Council would now function without the people’s representatives.
The President has emphasized the need to make the people aware of this situation and hold the election expeditiously.
The President has stated this at a meeting with the Provincial Council Forum representing the Sri Lanka People’s Front at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday afternoon.
President Rajapaksa also stated that decisions were taken during the past 15 months fulfilling the party’s policies and promises to the people, giving priority to nationalism, localism and security in the country. (Global Times)
